Lock On: Modern Air Combat
From VaafWiki
Lock On: Modern Air Combat is the first title in the Lock On series. Lock On: Flaming Cliffs is an expansion pack which adds some improvements and a high fidelity flyable SU25t. The expansion pack patches the sim to version 1.1 which is incompatible with the version without it. Most VAAF Lockon Modern Air Combat operations require Flaming Cliffs.
Welcome to the VAAF LOMAC/Flaming Cliffs area. Hopefully you'll find something to keep you interested and will fly online with us occasionally. Presently we tend to fly Flaming Cliffs co-op ground attack missions using the ( A-10A and SU25t ) but if you want something else, add your name and details to the LOMAC Roster. We are presently running a dynamic Flaming Cliffs co-op A2G campaign with one mission being planned/executed per week.

Introduction
LOMAC (Lock on Modern Air Combat) with its expansion FC (Flaming Cliffs) is a combat flight simulator written by a Russian software development house (Eagle Dynamics). It builds on the SU27 Flanker series which has been around since the days of DOS and models 5 soviet aircraft (SU27, SU33, SU25, SU25t, Mig29) and 2 allied aircraft ( F15C, A-10A ). The best modelled aircraft is undoubtedly the SU25t which was introduced with FC. The US aircraft are generally less well modelled, with models from the 1980s, and do not have access to their full range of real life weaponry. That said however, the ((A-10A)) is a good introduction to modern CAS (close air support) operations with it's simple to use standoff weaponry. We are currently developing a set of flight standard operating procedures in order to improve our effectiveness as a fighting force and regular training missions are being run.
Missions
Future planned missions can be found on the LOMAC Mission Planning Whiteboard. Currently we are running a co-op multiplayer campaign based upon a USA/Georgian coalition versus Russia scenario. Most of the missions are heavily based on air to ground. Completed missions, with briefings and downloads for anyone who wishes to re-fly them can be found in the ((LOMAC mission archive)).
When we mostly fly
Currently, most FC flights occur on the weekend with Sunday afternoon being a favourite. If you have a preferred time/ mission type etc (for FC or plain LOMAC) you can always add your details to the LOMAC Roster page. If you want to propose a particular mission at a designated time then you can add its details to the LOMAC Mission Planning Whiteboard. If you haven't flown multi with us before then please test your ability to connect (or serve if appropriate) before the scheduled flight (when the scheduled flight starts everyone will be busy doing their mission preparations). Just ask in IRC and there's bound to be someone who can put up a test server for you to connect to at other times.
Voice communications during missions
We use Teamspeak for voice comms during missions. The software is cross platform and is a free download (the company makes money from renting dedicated servers). Before the mission you'll be able to find out the address/password of the TS server that is to be used by asking on the IRC VAAF channel. If we're organised and a big flight is expected then all server details should be on the ((LOMAC Mission Planning Whiteboard)).
Mods
When flying multiplayer the use of mods (game modifications) are discouraged as they can cause problems. Mods that improve framerates by removing shaders, simplifying sounds, etc. should be fine as are aircraft skins (no-one else will see them though). Terrain mods are a big no-no though as they are known to cause problems if everyone's not using the same data. If you have installed any mods it's best to tell everyone that you'll be flying with about them. We're currently flying with the new SIM-MOD A10 and will probably use the Walmis F15 in later operations.
