Strike Fighters Project One gets electro-optical targetting

With the release of Wings Over Europe, the earlier Thirdwire production SFP1 has received a service pack (v05.15.06) that updates it to the same level. One of the welcome additions due to WOE is electro optical targetting for LGBs and mavericks. More details at ThirdWire.

Scorched Earth Online War

I'm happy to announce that VAAF now has it's own Scorched Earth online campaign system installed. Scorched Earth (see website) will allow us to create, command, and participate in dynamic wars in IL2. It's like a cross between Lowengrin's DCG and Falcon 4's dynamic campaign engine. It really is an amazing tool that will add much more depth to IL2. We're beginning a test run of the software this week, so please join in and fly with us to see how this campaign system works. Thanks to the efforts of GI Jew, new and improved forum software has been installed at vaaf.net. The new software features many improvements, such as attachments, quick reply, enchanced text formatting, and better security. Plus it just looks way nicer! Head over to the forum now and check it out!

We are a squadron of (mostly) Australian flight simulator enthusiasts who enjoy flying multiplayer sims online together and discussing sims in general. We are a very informal group and as such do not have the sort of entry requirements that a lot of online squadrons have. We feel that this makes us especially friendly for those who are unfamiliar with online simming (or even simming in general). If you're new to the VAAF then you are welcome to sign up for the forums, introduce yourself in the nuggets area, read our fascinating manifesto, hop into IRC, and come for a flight in any of the sims that are going (phew).

Flight simulators that our squadron flys online are: Lockon Modern Air Combat ( LOMAC ) and its expansion Flaming Cliffs, Falcon4 in it's various forms ( F4AF , openfalcon , and redviper ), the IL2 / Pacific Fighters series (specifically 1946), and Microsoft Flight Simulator ( FS9 and FSX ). Several members also join up as a squad for semi-regular Armed Assault (ArmA) sessions and have been known to fly an Enemy Engaged ( EECH ) mission or two. With the release of Black Shark, some members are flying online operations in it as well. One thing's for certain, if there's a new online multiplayer combat sim out then some of us are bound to be playing it. You don't need to be from Australia to join us as most flightsims (even of the combat variety) seem to be quite tolerant of higher pings than would be acceptable in other multiplayer games.
