I've recently discovered a couple of interesting free e-zines for sim pilots:

General aviation: "The Aviator" at http://www.aviatorsociety.com/aviator/index.htm

One for the rotorheads: "Rotorwash" at http://www.rotorwash-magazine.com/

2007 International Air Show

Wall of Fire Stage Two!!!! VAAF would like to remind you all about to upcoming International Air Show on the 20th-25th of March at Avalon Airport.

Breaking the Barriers
Beyond the speed of sound!
2007 marks the 60th anniversary of the breaking of the sound barrier. The Australian International Airshow will salute those with the right stuff in a very special way.It will pay tribute to the breaking of other barriers, scientific, industrial, commercial and social, that aviation has heralded – from the first flight to the part women have played in soaring through the glass ceiling.

There is a thread on the forums to discuss and plan the occasion. Drop in and say hello if you plan on attending the air show!

Hoons Invade Mt Panorama
Written by ScatterGun
Nov 12, 2006 at 12:51 PM
Yesterday the notorious VAAF lawnmower club descended upon Mount Panorama and terrorised the local population.

Their rampage started with burnouts and donuts and proceeded onto  an illegal street race which ended in tradgedy. There was a hit and run  incident involving a caretaker who was mowing the grassy verges of the famous track.

Fortunately a police surveillance camera captured the incident and the police are now searching for the driver of the mower with the numberplate "BigT". They also wish to interview the driver with the distinctive bumper sticker "If this mower's rocking don't bother knocking".

The caretaker is recovering in the local hospital and just keeps saying "my brain hurts".

About US
We are a squadron of (mostly) Australian flight simulator enthusiasts who enjoy flying multiplayer sims online together and discussing sims in general. We are a very informal group and as such do not have the sort of entry requirements that a lot of online squadrons have. We feel that this makes us especially friendly for those who are unfamiliar with online simming (or even simming in general). If you're new to the VAAF then you are welcome to sign up for the forums, introduce yourself in the nuggets area, read our fascinating manifesto, hop into IRC, and come for a flight in any of the sims that are going (phew).

Flight simulators that our squadron flys online are: Lockon Modern Air Combat ( LOMAC ) and its expansion Flaming Cliffs, Falcon4 in it's various forms ( F4AF , openfalcon , and redviper ), the IL2 / Pacific Fighters series (specifically 1946), and Microsoft Flight Simulator ( FS9 and FSX ). Several members also join up as a squad for semi-regular Armed Assault (ArmA) sessions and have been known to fly an Enemy Engaged ( EECH ) mission or two. With the release of Black Shark, some members are flying online operations in it as well. One thing's for certain, if there's a new online multiplayer combat sim out then some of us are bound to be playing it. You don't need to be from Australia to join us as most flightsims (even of the combat variety) seem to be quite tolerant of higher pings than would be acceptable in other multiplayer games.
